1921 Census added to Ancestry
1921 England Census
1921 Wales Census 1921 Channel Islands Census 1921 Isle of Man Census If you get error messages when searching or viewing the census, try refreshing the page a few times as this often happens with new databases. |

It won't allow corrections to the Orphanhood field at the moment - my grandfather has been transcribed as "both parents alive" when it should say "both dead" but when I click to correct it, there is no option for that field, not even in the "Info" section.

Also it seems odd that they don't show birthplace in the list of search results - you have to hover the cursor over each one (or actually click on it) to see the birthplace.

So far I am finding the transcriptions pretty good. I wonder whether it was done by software, like the 1950 US census, rather than people. But I do wish there was an easy way to jump between the England census and the Wales census. Update - the transcription must have been supplied by Findmypast because I compared the full transcripton of a certain record on both sites and it was exactly the same, e.g. Person making return / Respondent Miss Agnets H Cokc - obviously that is not what it actually said on the image.

Yes, I've just checked my family, and on the same page Florence (written correctly for two people on the schedule) is transcribed twice as Florance by both FMP and Ancestry.
That's very annoying; it's often useful to be able to check different transcriptions. I wonder if corrections that people make to FMP transcriptions will be passed on to Ancestry and viceversa? Somehow I doubt it. |

I agree about the transcriptions. My great-grandfather appears in 1921. Clearly both sites use the same transcription as his occ on both is "Lidrary Secretary" rather than Library Secretary.
On the page image his birth place is written "Cambridge Whittlesford". FMP has fields in their transcription as follows: Birth place Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England Birth town Cambridge Birth county Cambridgeshire Birth place as transcribed Cambridge, Whittlesford but Ancestry has only: Birth Place Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England So, no mention of Whittlesford anywhere in Ancestry's version of the transcript.
