The illegitimate William born in 1825 will probably appear on a bastardy order. My man was also born in Lancashire in 1825 and I found him on a bastardy order. Unfortunately, the child's name is rarely given, just "son of", so you need to know at least a mother's name.
I am not sure where these documents are now, they used to be listed on the old A2A site, so possibly they are with the TNA, or possibly with Lancashire County Records. As you have a few possibilities for your William, it might be a process of elimination. OC |

Manchester and Lancashire FHS say:
Lancashire Bastardy and Removal Orders Transcribed by Mark Campbell. Bastardy orders covering 1802-1841 (with gaps) and Removal orders 1703-1845 (with gaps) from Lancashire Quarter Sessions records. Originals now available on ancestry.co.uk web database. but at the moment I've not found them on Ancestry!
