Searching on Google, I have found some mentions of a Johann Martin Zellhofer who was a Sattlermeister and magistrate in Bayreuth in the 1820's and 1830's, perhaps Andreas's father? So the 1808 and 1820 directory entries could also be Johann Martin. There is a Johann Martin Zellhofer with a wife Christina Louisa (or Louisa Christina) Nehrlich who had children baptised in Speyer, Bavaria, in 1769 and 1772; perhaps they then moved to Bayreuth? The Johann Martin in Speyer is a shoemaker though.

There is a marriage in 1899 of an Andreas Georg Eugen Zellhofer, born 21 Jan 1842 Bayreuth, perhaps a son of this Andreas?
Edit - no, his father is Johann Georg Sebastian Zellhofer. But my Andreas and his wife Margaretha were godparents to this child, so must have been related.

Edit - yes, Johann Martin Zellhoefer is named as Andreas' father on the banns publication for Andreas' marriage.
