I solved the Hunter / Atkins problem in post #10 a while back, and it turned out I was descended from the son of Henry Edwin Atkins and Elizabeth Hunter.
But back to the original post - I have a new DNA match who is my fifth cousin, descended from Thomas Lucey and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) who (presumably) married around 1784/5, but via a Lucey who didn't marry a Bristow! And the Grider / Medaris people are shared matches with this person. So at least I know now that the connection must be on the Lucey side, not the Bristow side.
