Mrs Bennett was visiting Horsham, Sussex though she actually lived in Edenbridge, Kent. She is writing to her grandson Norman Straughan who lived with her daughter aunt Annie in West Wittering after his mother died. His mother had died when he was 5 and he lived at his aunt's house in West Wittering but frequently stayed with another aunt in Eastbourne or his grandparents in Edenbridge. This is my Aunt Violet Lilian Poyner, known as Lily taken about 1927, with family cat in her lap. She later worked in a pet shop, so got her love for animals very early on. |
