Shouldn't that be 1796 and 1804?

Well, I know I have a reputation for typos, but that was intentional! For some reason I have him listed as abt 1776, but can't find my evidence for that!!!! 1841 census is abt 1796, 1851 census is abt 1804. So I think you are probably right Merry, but I didn't feel I could totally ignore what I've got written down, perhaps that was a typo from years ago.

If I get the death cert that Kite has found, it may help me narrow it down a bit!

If that is his death, can you find him in 1861? wife has died by then in 1859, but could be with his son Robert John b 1836 as he married in 1866.

I did try to find him in 1861 without any success.

Do you have her death cert? It should show whether she was a wife or a widow as a further clue. I would say there's a very good chance Kate has the right death though.

I see his son, Robert, was buried at Hillingdon. Maybe Edward was buried at the same place?

Hillingdon does seem to have been the place of choice for this family, his wife was buried there too. Will order the certs tonight!!!
