Now Lara's found the date of death it turns out his was proved at Lancaster by John Hargreaves Law of Newchurch 25 Feb 1871, effects under £300, hope to send for it (and that of his sister Grace who I'm hoping that as a childless widow will have left little bequests to various relations)
The will arrived - it was executed by his friend John Hargreaves Law, he had left everything to be divided equally between his 6 surviving children John (my ancestor), Joseph James, Henry, Mary & Elizabeth Jane.

Yes Jay, thanks - I know I ought to buy a cert but it'll have to wait until funds allow.

Lancs OPC has loads of burials, he's not buried in at St Nicholas Newchurch in Rossendale 1871 so it's likely to be the 1864 one, but they haven't covered burials for that date yet. One to go on my birthday list I think.

The 1864 death is in Accrington, age 46, on both Lancashire BMD and Lancs OPC.
