MFFF unknown man

My mother's father's father's MOTHER was Sarah Smith b 08 Aug 1851 hampstead norris, Berks. Her first-born was James Smith 30 Nov 1869 but I have no idea who his father - my MFFF - was.

Sarah married Thomas Hammond and they had 10 children together but I don't know if Thomas was James's father.

No note is written in the baptism regisister about any putative father. No bastardy orders for 1869 exist at Berks RO.

I think I have exhausted all avenues.

Good luck!

lol What date did Sarah and Thomas marry?

Have you checked to see if Thomas left a will, which might state whether James was his natural son or stepson?

I'm sure I've got a note of it somewhere Merry but, where?

No Kate, not checked the will route. Hadn't thought of that. Will see if I can find Thos DOD.
