Blimey, he was mixed up about where he was born wasn't he.

He married in Alrewas which is about halfway between Lichfield and Burton on Trent. Ashby is way off in the other direction.

Looking at the map, I know I shouldn't need to as I live in the area, Lichfield - Burton and Ashby form a triangle. I wonder if he came from somewhere in the middle.

lol! The IGI has a bap in Lichfield and another one in Burton on Trent, 1808 and 1809 from memory, but none in Ashby (unless it was in a non IGI church)

I suppose with earlier census saying Lichfield and Burton and not saying Ashby until 1871 it's more likely to not be Ashby. BUT, he says Ashby 3 times. I wonder who actually answered the enumerator's questions, we'll never know.

If he was from Alrewas area, that is only slightly closer to Lichfield. They are all in Staffordshire whereas Ashby is in Leicestershire. If you get directions from Alrewas to Ashby on Google maps it goes through villages like Croxall, Edingale and almost to Clifton Campville and then Overseal.

Needle in a haystack job I reckon.
