Hi Jill

I looked out my notes from Jule Cheeseman (c2000) who had Joan Astin listed as John Harwood's wife, with ?1697 Wisboro Green noted.

I checked the Sussex marriage index and there is a marriage for John Harrold and Joan Astin at Wisborough Green on 11 Apr 1697, which would fit.

Needs more proof than just the index entry, but its a place to start.

Thankyou Di, his son Thomas was buried as Harrold so it's a distinct possibility.

(I'm told Harrod is another variation, maybe there's a link to a certain London store!)

I have seen several versions - Harrad, Harrod, Harrald, Harrard, as well as Hardwood. As long as they knew who was meant I guess.

Julies work was done pre-internet, so it was done with many visits to the RO and other repositories to look at the original sources, and probably some family sources as well, so I am inclined to believe it is as accurate as it can be.

No connection to Harrods in London having looked back at the founder's history.

I now have DNA links to five of Edward Harwood's descendants.
