Duchy of Cornwall

Listening to the radio this morning and learnt that if someone dies intestate in Cornwall, the assets go to the Duchy of Cornwall. Last year, Prince Charles received £500,000 from the intestate estates. Never knew that.

I think OC mentioned it once on an Heir Hunters thread. The same applies to the Duchy of Lancaster (The Queen) I believe.

Yes, twas me!

Having been born in Lancashire and now living in Cornwall I am well aware that intestacy means my money would go to the Duchy (Prince Charles) who I reckon has enough already!

But...still Cornish people don't make Wills!

It is only when someone dies intestate and there are no surviving kin that this happens.

I think it has changed in my lifetime, Kate because when I was a child (we lived in Lancashire) if my father had died without making a Will, my mother would have got half DURING HER LIFETIME and the interest on the other half in order to provide for me and my brother until we were 21.
