T&Cs Updated - ancestry

I came across this article and thought it might be worth bringing to everyone's attention.

One big change at Ancestry

Thanks for posting it. But I really don't think it is a significant change and I think people on Facebook etc are making much too much of a big deal out of it. I don't think people should worry unduly about this.

Also, I am sure I have previously come across "user provided content" on Ancestry which had been added by people who were no longer members of the site, though via Google searches rather than by searching on Ancestry itself. I think it was Ancestry Historical Person Search - this is possibly the direct link to it on Ancestry https://www.ancestry.co.uk/genealogy/records/

Well, I would never, ever, ever upload photos to Ancestry. And what on earth happens if someone uploads images that they do not own, and for which they had not obtained permission?

Isn't this the same for most fh websites? I feel like I have always known this anyway.

I've never uploaded a photo to Ancestry, but loads of photos I've emailed to other people who wouldn't do that either are on the site because those contacts have passed my pictures on to other, more computer literate relatives/name collectors. Only one person has uploaded a photo they then appear on everyone elses tree where copying of info has happened.

Precisely. Though, being Ancestry, the people getting hold of old photos haven't a clue as to what they possess, and often get the subjects' names wrong.

That's a good explanation.
