Very exciting news for those with Australian ancestors or rellies – the BMD indexes for all states are now online at ancestry, covering dates which may go up to 1922 for births, 1949 for marriages and 1985 for deaths (presumably those are the cutoffs set by the Australian authorities for privacy reasons). Not all dates are included for all states. There are also indexes to some pre-civil registration church records included.
Some states already had their indexes online, but not all of them, and even for the states that were already online, such as NSW, Queensland and Victoria, ancestry’s search facilities may allow more flexible searches than the state’s own site and work out cheaper than buying credits for those that charge.
