Robert Chowns 1779-1872
Robert Chowns, baptised 18 Jul 1779, Aston Rowant, Oxfordshire
parents: John Chowns and Mary, nee Saunders 1801 marriage 5 Sep at Farnham Royal, Buckinghamshire to Susanna/h Simons/Simmons Between 1802 - 1826 Robert and Susanna had one son and 7 daughters. 1819 Robert was a witness at a settlement dispute between Aston Rowant and Stoke Poges. He explained that he moved to Stoke Poges after the ceiling of his father-in-law's house fell in. He earned 12s. a week from selling orchard fruit and kept 2 or 3 pigs and paid the rates. He was allowed to stay in Stoke Poges. 1841 Robert aged 60, with Susanna in Stoke Poges, working as an ag lab. 1843 Robert's wife died. 1851 Robert, 71, is a widowed almsman at The Hospital, Stoke Poges, a privately endowed almshouse. 1861 Robert is aged 81, still at the almshouse. 1871 Robert is 91, still at Stoke Hospital.
