Addresses where they lived (including county if in UK) – 1841: Front Street, Newchurch in Rossendale, Lancashire 1851/1861: Newchurch in Rossendale, Lancashire Date, place and cause of death Probably in Haslingden district between 1861 and 1871 Joseph Kershaw Died in Newchurch Age 66 on the 29th Dec 1870 thanks to Lara  Date and place of burial. Not known Buried 2nd Jan 1871 St Nicholas, Newchurch in Rossendale Lara again! Details of will / administration of their estate - if applicable Now Lara's found the date of death it turns out his was proved at Lancaster by John Hargreaves Law of Newchurch 25 Feb 1871, effects under £300, hope to send for it (and that of his sister Grace who I'm hoping that as a childless widow will have left little bequests to various relations) The will arrived - it was executed by his friend John Hargreaves Law, he had left everything to be divided equally between his 6 surviving children John (my ancestor), Joseph James, Henry, Mary & Elizabeth Jane. Memorial inscription - if any Not known But I now know thanks tolLara he shares his grave with his parents and wife "Also Joseph Kershaw who died Decr./39th 1870 aged 66 years" Fresh news from Lara again, see below for the full transcript from the MI she found for me. Yes Jay, thanks - I know I ought to buy a cert but it'll have to wait until funds allow.
Lancs OPC has loads of burials, he's not buried in at St Nicholas Newchurch in Rossendale 1871 so it's likely to be the 1864 one, but they haven't covered burials for that date yet. One to go on my birthday list I think.

The 1864 death is in Accrington, age 46, on both Lancashire BMD and Lancs OPC.

Jill I did look for the 1864 one & not buried at St Nicholas.
Now we know why thanks to Kiterunner I did find this one buried at St Nicholas. Joseph Kershaw Died in Newchurch Age 66 on the 29th Dec 1870 Buried 2nd Jan 1871 Also his wife Betty who died age 65 10th April 1870 Also in the same grave are John Kershaw died age 74 15th June 1847 Also his wife Grace Kershaw died age 80 12th Nov 1852. I do have a few more people but will PM the rest to you. Could be the Joseph Kershaw. Jay found 1871 Death same one as the one I found. Last edited by Lara; 10-01-11 at 19:42. Gosh Lara! Thankyou so much! Two generations at once -John & Grace were his parents, that's brilliant.
Now thanks to you I know his parents' ages at death I've been able to push the Kershaws back another generation

This is the full transcript from the MI Lara so kindly found from the Kershaw family grave. I'll edit it later to add info for anyone else looking for Kershaws.
Here/ resteth the earthly remains of/ John Kershaw of New=church who/ departed this life the 15th day of/ June 1847 in the 74th year of his age / Also Grace Kershaw , wife of the above/[nee Edmyson who departed this life the 12th day of/ Novr. 1852 aged 80 years. Also/ John Kershaw who died March 11th 1879 aged 77 years/son of John & Grace] Also Joseph Kershaw who died Decr./[son of John & Grace] 39th 1870 aged 66 years/ Also Betty his wife who died April/ 10th 1870 in the 65th year of her age/ Also Richard his son who died April/ 28th 1861 in the 30th year of his age/[married 1860, widow Mary of Halton West nr Skipton obt Administation of his estate] Also Grace Ann the daughter of Joseph/[g'dau of John & Grace] and Betty Kershaw who died Octr. 25th/ 1844 in the 2nd year of her age. Also of/ Elizabeth the daughter of John and/[g'dau of John & Grace] Margaret Ann Kershaw who died March/[wife of John & Grace's son John] 5th 1847 in the 7th year of her age. Also of/ Thomas their son who died March 5th 1847 in the first year of his age. Also Helena Kershaw who died Feb. 11th 1865/ aged 4 years. Also Richard Kershaw/ who died July 23rd 1877 aged 24 years/ Also Grace Ann daughter of John/ and Margaret Ann Kershaw who died March/ 1st 1884 in the 34th year of her age.
