Thank you for looking Kat, i have a a lot of information on this man, but nothing before 1861 and nothing for the father George mentioned on his marriage cert.

The only George i found was a George Akers in Belper who was a blacksmith, at the right time and wondered if it could be him, but theres no proof.

I also found a adult baptism and someone checked it at Derby RO for me, this John was 19 and a labourer, so could be him as he was living at Norbury at the time and would have been 19, he was a labourer on his marriage cert, again i need proof.
JOHN TOMLINSON - International Genealogical Index / BI
Gender: Male Adult Christening: 23 JUN 1861 Norbury And Roston, Derby,
England mothers name mary

As George had an adult christening I would suspect an illegitimate birth here perhaps. Maybe father George given as mark of respectability. Was father deceased on Marriage cert?

Perhaps we are looking for mother Mary Tomlinson, single?

I have tried looking for a Mary Tomlinson (single) with a son John, but had no luck there either, i agree there is a big possibility he was illegitimate.

It would be easier if ancestry's 1851 census search was working properly!

I have tried searching with the surname Tomlinson, Tom*, Thom* with and without a year of birth +/-, John without the surname and year of birth and Derbyshire, all to no avail. The only constant thing is, he was born Belper on all records, including when he joined the police force.

Even tried Tomkinson and Tomlinson as first names. I have checked on fmp as well. All I can think of is he wasn't called John on 1851 census!!! Tried all the George's b 1780 to 1825 with or without Mary as spouse. and none have occ as blacksmith or similar.

Its frustrating, i have been looking for about 4 years and i`m sure he was just planted in 1861 from god knows where, maybe Mars.

Maybe he changed his name, i do have 2 ancestors on other lines that did that, (Streets to Calladine and Hickinbotham to Robotham)

Thank you for trying Kat
