I think it's 75% likely the baptism for Elizabeth is this one:

Elizabeth bap 05 Dec 1830 at St Augustine-the-Less, Bristol, parents John and Ann Saunders. Abode Anchor Lane, father's occupation Servant. (looked up by Kate when we were doing Elizabeth's father, John Saunders - thanks )

(Kate, you may remember investigating the dreaded John Saunders, coal merchant, who is so elusive!)

I may have found another clue (or red herring?!) for Elizabeth so am adding the info here in case someone can use it to make a difference to anything!

Elizabeth Saunders should appear four censuses:

1841 I think she is aged 10 living in Mangotsfield, Gloucestershire - not with parents
1851 I had no definite match
1861 with her husband, age given as 30 b Bristol
1871 with her husband age given as 39 b Bristol

Today I was looking at her marriage cert and thought I should look at the address she gave at the marriage on the 1851 census. The marriage was Nov 1854 and the details she gave were occ dressmaker, West Street (presumably in the parish of St James).

So, I looked at the 1851 census for West street, St James and found this entry:

11 West Street, St James, Bristol
Elizabeth Sanders (not Saunders) visitor, unm, 29 (but I wondered if it should have said 20?!) occupation seamstress, b Somerset Mount Silva

Now, this could well be a complete red herring, but I keep going back to it. Where is Mount Silva? How is this Elizabeth connected (if at all!) to the Langridge family?

I haven't looked at anything else yet, because I got excited at finding this!

From Minterne the members drove to Buckland Newton by the way of
Dogberry, thence turning to the right over the top of Mount Silva.
From this point, one of the highest in the neighbourhood on the edge
of the chalk escarpment, a magnificent view was obtained over the Vale
of Blackmoor lying northwards. As the afternoon had become very clear
and bright after the rain of the preceding night the distant points of
Ham Hill, Glastonbury Tor, the Mendip Hills and Stourton Tower were
plainly visible. Buckland Newton, which lies in the valley on the east
side beneath Mount Silva, was reached about six o'clock, and here the
party were again most kindly received by the Rev. H. E. Ravenhill, R.D.,
and Mrs. Ravenhill.

I still can't find a Mount Silva in Somerset, only the Dorset one, and not many mentions of that. I did find this, also in the Proceedings of the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society": "There is one place which still retains its Roman name. It is the woody height of Mount Silva in Buckland Newton."

I had been hoping to find something saying it was more commonly known as ... whatever. Anyway, it's the only Mount Silva I can find. I'm sure I've come across confusion between Dorset and Somerset in a few census entries before.

It just seemed quite a coincidence that there should be an Elizabeth Sa(u)nders in that street with the right occupation, but I guess her age does say 29, not 20.

Perhaps I will have a poke round the people she is visiting to see if anything transpires!

Thanks for looking for Mount Silva though....

I've been to all these places (except for seeing anything called Mount Silva!).....I will have a look at some maps later....

I've not posted for ages, but you've got my juices going. My husband's Mother was a Langridge but from Ramsgate, Kent. I've done a lot of work on them but not come across a link with the Saunders surname.

Saunders is a very well known surname in Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Hello Mary! Nice to see you back.

There is Langridge family here in Bournemouth. As a teen I used to chambermaid at a hotel where a couple called Langridge would come everyday in their Rolls for lunch! Then when I started working in a bank a few years later I discovered one of my colleagues had the same maiden name and was Mr L's niece or cousin (I've forgotten now, but this was 30+ years ago). I still occasionally see her in Tesco!

As for the couple in Bristol I didn't get much past finding the wife was nee Wedlock which I thought was a nice name, but I haven't found any marriages between Wedlock or Langridge with Sa(u)nders, nor between those names and the various possible surnames I had on my shortlist for my Elizabeth's mother. As I went on with it I began to feel I was getting nowhere and so left it. After all, if I found a connection but that isn't my Elizabeth then I could be making things worse!!
