Default A woman I know little about! Mary Williams

This is where common Welsh names and a reluctance to spend money on certs that I can't be sure are the right ones leaves gaps in my knowledge!

Anyway

Margam, Glamorgan
Thomas Williams Taibach head

John Evans son 4 b. Maesteg

Thomas Williams b Taibach 58 boarder [I think this is Mary's father]

So does this mean you don't have the John Evans / Mary Williams marriage certificate just to double-check that her father was Thomas?

The likely marriage ref is Oct-Dec 1862 Neath vol 11a p 664.

1851 census:
Taibach B Cotton Row
Thomas Williams Head Mar 37 Collier Margam Glamorgan
Thomas Williams Son U 13 Coppermill Man Do Do
Mary Williams Daur U 10 Scholar Do Do
Margaret Williams Daur U 7 Do Do Do
Lewis Williams Son U 5 do Do Do
Ann Williams Daur U 3 Infant Do Do
Mary Williams Wife Mar 34 Collier's Wife Do Do

There is a line drawn to link Thomas and Mary senior saying "husband & wife".

Given that she is 1 month old on the 1841 census, this is her likely birth registration:
Apr-Jun 1841 Williams, Mary Neath XXVI 483.
But there are three possibles in the Jul-Sep quarter, two with surname William and one Williams. So yes, it could get expensive trying to get certificates for this family!

And then just to be confusing, FamilySearch Record Search has the baptism of a Mary Williams at Margam, parents Thomas and Mary, but the date is given as 30 Nov 1840. There are likely baptisms on there for Thomas jr and Margaret (also a Henry in 1834) so I wonder if the year is wrong for Mary's?

Have you found the Evans family in 1891, 1901 and 1911, Nell?

Hi KiteRunner

You've been busy! I'm afraid I lost interest in this family as they are so difficult and have been absorbed in new leads in my Norfolk side, but thanks for your efforts. I'll look through what you've found and digest it!

I don't have the Evans' later on, though I do have their son Jenkin Evans. I think I must have decided John & Mary had died and couldn't face working out which were their deaths in the indexes!!!!
