Default Wiltshire Wills Index

I'm probably behind the times and you all know about this.....

"The outstanding Salisbury Diocesan Probate collection contains 105,000 wills and inventories dating from Tudor to Victorian times (1540-1858). This unique collection covers the whole of Wiltshire and Berkshire, parts of Dorset and Uffculme in Devon. The collection is one of the finest in the country, and an invaluable source for historians"

But just in case....

Each Will is downloadable for a fee (like TNA).

Looks exciting. I had seen it the other day but it wouldn't load then. Don't think I've got any ancestors in those counties though...

Sue, it has been available for a while. I have used it to search for my Alexander ancestors, but I can't find anything that is specifically mine.

I have sent them a comment tonight as the search facility is rubbish. They ask for "name" so I enter "Alexander" and then it comes up with everyone with the Christian name of Alexander as well. I just want people with the surname Alexander!

This was a Millenium project, so it's nice to know it's complete, but you used to be able to download wills for free!

Okay, take it back. They are charging for what was free, but they still haven't finished.

I can't get it to work, every time I click on the link I get "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close"!
