If she was born in what Genuki call Llangendeirne, then that's in Carmarthen district so one of these should be the right one:
Births Dec 1841 Harris Ann Carmarthen 26 466 Births Dec 1842 Harris Ann Carmarthen 26 474

I suppose we are back to thinking this is probably John in 1851?

I am REALLY beginning to hate Wales Merry!
Yes, for the moment I am plumping for that entry for John in 1851 because I feel sure that he was born in Liverpool, despite what someone put down on that census form! I too have found those possible births for Ann Harris, and am currently playing eenie meenie etc. I am just so unwilling to waste £9 odd if I plump for the wrong one, and given that the last certificate arrived despite my reference showing a different father (thank goodness it did actually), then I am not convinced that giving Ann's father's name will guarantee a correct cert. Will think about it

Maybe you could try the local office again. At least it won't be the same one!!

Hehe..........perhaps they will actually look do you think?!!! Good idea, I had rather become disillusioned with the Records Offices after the last experience, but will give it another go

Well, the reply has come back from Carmarthenshire Records, and it is a little baffling.
They have checked over several years, and there are only two birth records for an Anne in the possible timescale in Llangendeirne.............but the surname in both cases is Harry not Harris. Also, the father in both cases is David. The helpful lady who sent the email has kindly said that if I ring her we can discuss it, so I will do that because the marriage cert clearly says Harris. Anyway, whatever it is of no flipping help because the father in both cases is David, a farmer!!!

Are they saying the two certs listed in the GRO indexes as Harris are actually Harry, or is it that the two entries we found turned out to be for births in different villages and that left us with only Harrys to choose from, born in the right place?
