MFFM Mary Ann Laycock
Name - Mary Ann Laycock
Date and place of birth - Abt 1818-21 Sutton in Craven, Yorks.? Names of parents - John Laycock and ? (marriage cert.) Date and place of baptism - ? Details of each of his or her marriages - 30 Dec 1845 to Thomas Berry, Blackburn, Lancs. (cert.) Occupation(s) - Servant on 1841 in Blackburn Addresses where they lived - 1841 Blackburn, Lancs. http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?h...c=&pid=3333196 Wm Johnson 47 Hannah Johnson 48 David Johnson 14 Mary Ann Laycock 20 <<< Here she is in service in Blackburn working for a family named Johnson: William 47, Hannah 48 and David 14. I'm sure I have the right Mary Ann because when she marries Thomas Berry on December 30 of that same year, the witnesses are William Dewhurst on the first line, followed by two signatures together on the second line: W. Johnson D. Johnson. Wm Dewhurst is on the same census page, the neighborhood publican. So that nails it for me. Can anyone make out what's meant by the chicken scratches in the employment column on the 1841 for Wm Johnson? 1851 Sutton in Craven, Yorks. http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?h...=&pid=17397611 Thomas Berry 32 Mary Ann Berry 32 John Berry 5 Hannah Berry 3 Peter Berry 1 1861 Sutton in Craven, Yorks. http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?h...c=&pid=9852267 Thomas Berry 42 M A Berry 42 John Berry 15 Hannah Berry 13 Peter Berry 11 James Berry 6 Sarah Berry 5 William Berry 3 1871 Sutton in Craven, Yorks. http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?h...=&pid=25505974 Thomas Berry 51 Mary Ann Berry 51 John Berry 24 Hannah Berry 23 Peter Berry 21 James Berry 17 Sarah Ann Berry 14 William Berry 12 1881 Sutton in Craven, Yorks. http://search.ancestry.co.uk/iexec?h...=&pid=23897339 Thomas Berry 61 Mary Ann Berry 60 John Berry 34 Peter Berry 32 William Berry 23 Hannah Walton 64 sister-in-law Date, place and cause of death - 6 Sep 1887, Sutton, cause? It says Sh K, which I think must mean Shop Keeper (there is a Shop K on the previous double page.)

I'm pretty certain this must be her father here at the bottom of the left-hand page in the 1841 census:
John Laycock 1841 census So might her mother be Sarah? Needs further research. I give some reasons why I am fairly confident these are the right Laycocks on my thread for my GGF James Berry, Mary Ann's son. James Berry MFF Have to leave this now. I'm meant to be traveling in the morning. |

I still have not nailed down any baptism record and do not know if the Sarah with John Laycock in Sutton on the 1841 is Mary Ann's mother or not. Brick wall awaiting demolition.
