Baronet or timber miller?
My fffm was Henrietta Driver who arrived in Aus "Coromandel" 30.3.1838 with her husband Robert Smith and three children. Stories circulated in the family for generations that she was the runaway daughter of a Baronet - Edward Driver. In the 1980s a book was published which debunked this and I 99% believe this is correct, but the problem is that there were no sources quoted. After hearing so many stories of people being attached to wrong trees I would like to prove this beyond doubt. Today I received a phone call and the old story is still circulating.
Records I have are: Shipping: father Martin (a sawyer) married to Hannah. 2nd marriage in Aus in 1859: father Martin (a miller) and Anna Midmore. Death cert (informant 2nd husband) father James (a miller). I really would like to have documented evidence to prove - marriage Henrietta to Robert Smith at Tunbridge Wells 26 Oct 1826 and her baptism at Bidborough Kent on 25 November 1807. Can anyone suggest the best way to obtain Kent records, because from what I can see the Online Parish Clerk for Kent is vacant? |

You need to check the Parish Records for Bidborough which hopefully will find you the record you are seeking, so you may find some help from the following site:
http://www.kent-opc.org/Parishes/Bidborough.html Even though the online Parish Clerk is vacant there should still be an e mail that you can fire off for more help. You could also try the following NA A2A site which gives you the address for the Kentish Studies in Maidstone http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a...51-p25&cid=0#0 from there key in Kentish Studies and there is an e mail addres for that at: [email protected] For what it is worth there was a lot of "milling" around the Medway to include flour and paper mills and saw mills and therefore sawyers were abundant in the area. Do you know which church they got married at? If so then you could check the Family History Library Catalog to see whether the microfilm is available to order. They do have the Bidborough parish registers.

Libby it should be Robert Smith - can you see the original record?
Kate - it would be Church of England. I know the main church is Charles The Martyr, but I'm not sure if there are any others? |

Julie, what is your source for her place of birth/baptism?

Merry - that is the problem - information is only from a book privately published in the 1980s. She has not quoted sources and I believe she used a private researcher.

Family Search has Thomas as well. All the Ancestry trees have Robert so not sure if someone has copied the wrong name on the trees or on the records.

No it doesn't! It's Robert, but it's a Pallot's entry,so just an index and copied from the PR or banns book.
