There is a birth registration for Alice Maria Edwards Oct-Dec 1873 Clifton district, which could be her?

I don't know if you already have her parents on the previous censuses?

1871 8 Allen's Court, St Philip and St Jacob, Bristol
John Edwards Head M 44 Plasterer Brecon
Sarah Edwards Wife M 38 Bristol St Philips
Emma Edwards Dau 14 Monmouthshire
Mary Ann Edwards Dau 12 Monmouthshire
Emilia Edwards Dau 10 Monmouthshire
Thomas Edwards Son 3 Monmouthshire
Elizabeth Edwards Dau 5 weeks Bristol St Philips

1861 Aberdare, Glamorgan
John Edwards Head Mar 35 Plasterer Brecon
Sarah Do Wife Mar 28 Bristol
Sarah J Do Dau 6 Glamorgan Aberdare
Emma Do Dau 4 Monmouthshire Rhymney
Mary A Do Dau 2 Glamorgan Aberdare

I was certain that Sarah was a second wife and he would be with the first one in 1861!! And I was wrong.

Presumably Sarah Denwiddy, widow age 69, mother-in-law, born Bristol, on the 1881 census, is Sarah's mother, so this could be them in 1841:
Water Street, St Paul, Bristol, Gloucestershire
James Denwiddy 30 Porter Yes
Sarah Do 25 Sempstress Yes
Sarah Do 8 Yes
Emma Do 6 Yes
James do 4 Yes

But I haven't managed to find John and Sarah's marriage yet.

Brilliant Kite. I had not spotted that at all. I have not done OH's tree as it seems full of complications like Scotland and Wales and no one else seems interested.

I think this is Alice in 1891:
Wellington Terrace, St Philip and St Jacob, Bristol:
Joseph Williams Head M 35 Butcher's Labourer Bristol
Emma Do Wife M 34 Wales
Henry Do Son S 13 Horse Driver's Boy Bristol
Joseph Do Do 11 Scholar Do
Sarah Do Daur 7 Do Do
John Do Son 3 Do
Elizabeth Edwards Lodger S 20 Cotton Weaver Do
Alice Do Do S 18 Do Do
William Bennet Boarder Widr 64 Mason's Labourer Ireland.

Presumably Elizabeth and Alice should be "sisters in law" instead of lodgers, as Emma looks to be their sister.

Alice is indexed as Alia on ancestry. I've put in a correction.

thanks good training for William Fraser next week.... It is suprising to have got back to 1827 already with John. I like Dinwiddy as a name it seems very unusual.
