Pennsylvania, Church and Town Records, 1708-1985 - ancestry
If you're looking for anyone over here and can get into Ancestry's U.S. database:
Ancestry has more than 7 million new records from Pennsylvania. I was pleased to find some baptisms and church confirmations, also city directories that I don't believe were there before. Don't forget Pennsylvania includes the cities of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh which both were immigration destinations. Janet: Please could you do a quick look-up in those records for me? I've done a search and two entries have come top of the list but, of course, I can't view them because I don't have US access. If you could tell me the details I will know if it's worth my while upgrading. Here's who I'm looking for ( he was my great great grandfather):
JAMES LENHART born about 1815 *somewhere* in Pennsylvania. I've been after his exact birthplace and his parentage for years. I've got to go off-line for the rest of tonight but I'll be back tomorrow.

Ann, I've been going through it with a fine-toothed comb and I don't think I've come up with anything really revealing for you but maybe you'll see something here that I don't.
There is a Civil War veteran who served from 1861 to 1865 but I don't think they would have sent him as a private onto the battlefield over 45 years of age, would they? So maybe part of the same family, but not the one you're looking for. Do you already have the 1850 and 1860 censuses? It did look to me as if your man might have moved to New York City. This James Lenhart would have been born around 1818. If you don't have those images I can send them to you. There is also back in Pennsylvania on the 1850 a William Lenhart family. He is 41, an innkeeper, in Liverpool Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania.
