Default New Year projects

Finding out whereabouts in Ireland following came from:-

James Farmer born c1799 Ireland - parents Hugh Farmer & Helen McBryde

Daniel Barr born c1837 Ireland - parents John and Ellen Barr

Hugh Kirk born c1845 Ireland - father Peter

Francis McQuade born c1840 Ireland and his wife
Bridget Sands/Sanahan? born c1843 - 1901 census says born Cork but might be Cookstown. Possible marriage 30 May 1858 if Bridget's name Sanahan in Cookstown, Derryloran, Derryloran and Desertcreight, Desertcreight and Derryloran. Unfortunately no parents names given.

Children have variation of Sans, Sands as mother's maiden name on baptisms and birth certificates. However eldest daughter Sarah in US has Shanahan as her mother's maiden name on a US SS Claim in 1943 (probably Sarah's pension).

Annie Norman born c1859 Co Fermanagh - believe this is the surname from her marriage to Frank Norman and that her maiden name is really Bresland/Breslin with a father James.

Just hoping for a breakthrough in 2018.

Was your Hugh Kirk a Roman Catholic, Julie? If so, have you already looked into this baptism?

Haggardstown, Co Armagh, baptism 1 Oct 1847. Hugh of Peter Kirk & Catharine Murphy. Sponsors Michael Burman(?) and Alice McKeever(?).

There is a James Breslin, farmer, old enough to be Annie's father, at Killyrover, Belle Isle, Co Fermanagh, on the 1911 Irish census:

but he is Roman Catholic and Annie married Frank Norman in a C of E church. Also, his wife Eliza Jane says married 18 years, 2 children, both of whom are with them, but as James is 74 and Eliza Jane 60, I should think he had a previous wife.

Oh, that James Breslin was a bachelor on his marriage to Eliza Jane in 1893 (and gave his age as 44), so I guess we can rule him out.

Thanks Kite.

Yes they are all RC.

I have put the Hugh Kirk baptism down as a good possibility. I hoped that they would follow the Irish naming pattern which would give Hugh's mother as Bridget Ann. This name doesn't appear on his wife's Catherine McKenzies line.

The children are Hannah after Catherine's mother. Peter after Hugh's father, Bridget Ann possibly after Hugh's mother. Ellen after ?, John after Catherine's father, Margaret after Catherine's sister, Catherine after her mother and finally Mary Ann after Catherine's sister.

Unfortunately none of the godparents show any Kirk connections.

There was however a Henry Kirk of Railway Row Sunderland as a witness at their wedding in 1866 in Sunderland but have found nothing else about him. Brother, cousin, uncle, friend no idea.
