Default Granvile House

The owner of Granville House had been known to me as Stan in 1976. The house number is 1 Glebe Avenue, Hunstanton, PE36. Is it possible to find the full name of Stan who died around 1978 please?

I suppose the obvious way would be to look at the electoral registers around that time (assuming he lived at that address as well as owning it?), but they aren't online for those years as far as I know, so you would have to go to Norfolk Record Office or get someone to look it up there for you. If you have an idea of what his surname might have been, we could try to confirm it, but it isn't easy without a surname.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am sure his surname had been Neale, Neil or O'Neale/O'Neil. I think he had lived at the address with his blind mother since before WW2 had begun.

I can't find anything in that name to prove or disprove it. It looks as though Granville House has been split into flats, but I'm not sure when that happened.

I think Stan was murdered. He left his house to a charity for the elderly. Thanks for your efforts anyway.

Looking for Granville House history, I came across a website called Kelly's 1908 Directory. It makes no mention of Granville House but instead is a history of the occupants and business people that had lived in Hunstanton in the 1800s. I found it very interesting and it covers other areas of the UK.

1 Glebe Avenue is listed on the 1939 Register, but sadly there are no residents recorded.

I looked at people called Stan* who have an entry in the Probate Calendar around 1976 and lived in Hunstanton, but there were no entries for names similar to Neil or Neale etc etc. If he died 1966-1973 those probate calendars are not yet online.

They would be on the free government probate site, but not on ancestry. So not so easy to search.
