Default Could Robin be Robert? Wragby, Lincs

Wragby Baptism 10th April 1832; James Chambers s/o of Robert and Ann
No baptism of Robert Chambers abt 1801 but a marriage in 1823 to Ann Dawson.
Baptism of Robin Chambers 1799, son of Henry and Elizabeth but no marriage, burial or census records.

8th Jan 1852 Marriage at Wragby, Elizabeth Chambers age 22 to George Booth, From the original register on FMP Elizabeth's father is called Robert.

Wragby Burial Register 17 Mar 1853 Robin Chambers age 53
GRO Death index CHAMBERS, ROBERT age 53 1853 M Quarter in HORNCASTLE UNION Volume 07A Page 345

1855 Ann Chambers, widow (d/o James Dawson) marries James Buffham at Wragby.


12 Aug 1857 Marriage at Wragby of James Chambers aged 25, to Sarah Silvester. From the original register scan on FindMyPast James' father is Robin Chambers, deceased.


I can't find any news reports or probate in the either Robert or Robin.
Could Robert and Robin actually be the same man?

How you are recorded depends on who is writing it down. Robin is a diminutive form of Robert, so yes, as Kite says, very likely. The chances are that everyone always knew him as Robin, but those in authority wren't going to accept Robin as a name.

Did Henry and Elizabeth have other children? Did they include Nancy, Betty, Polly etc?

I'm chasing those through now on the census as this little lot seem to be the only branch that remained in the Wragby area. Their grandparents got into some bother with the law over fowl stealng and an alleged murder in the 1830's and 1840's.

The children named in the '41 and '51 are all regulars in the tree across the generations but I haven't followed them through fully at present.


The only baptism circa 1800 is for Robin in 1799, son of Henry and Elizabeth.
