If the age at death is correct, Ellen would have been about 31 when she married Richard, so may have been married before. Unfortunately the marriage record in the parish register doesn't say whether she was a widow.

Possible baptism 5 Jan 1734/5 St Peter Formby - Ellen Rymer daughter of Gilbert and Margaret. Fits with her eldest children's names.
