Default Philbrook family

Hi

I am connected to this family and have found a lot of information through Ancestry.Co.Uk. Egerton is my 4 x Great grandfather through his daughter Elizabeth. All Philbrooks are thought to descend from Simin le Bigod de Felbrigge (various spellings) and if that is true can then be traced back to 74 AD to Charlemagne, King of the Franks. Royalty, no less!

If you want more info on Egertons parents etc. just let me know.

Margaret

Welcome to the site, Margaret. I'm not sure how much research you have done into the name Philbrook but if it is derived from the place name Felbrigg, then I would have thought it quite possible that when people started to use surnames, people who had moved from Felbrigg to another place might acquire that surname, and so they wouldn't all necessarily be descended from the person you mention.

I have only researched on the internet so I am relying on other peoples research (or assumptions) I'm afraid. I wouldn't know where to start and really don't have the time to do the research myself. As there is school of thought that all Europeans are descended from Charlemagne I suppose there is a strong possibility that the research was correct! Wishful thinking perhaps.
