Default Midland Ancestors Library in Birmingham - LDS Affiliate Library

Just seen this in "Family Tree" magazine - the Midland Ancestors Family History Centre and Reference Library in the Kingsley Norris Room at the Birmingham & Midland Institute, Margaret Street, Birmingham (very close to New Street Station) has been given Affiliate Library status by FamilySearch, which means that the computers there can be used to view the images on FamilySearch which are restricted to FamilySearch Centres.

It is open from 10:15 a.m. - 3 p.m. most weekdays, except 10:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Thursdays, and is staffed by volunteers, so if you are travelling from a distance you should check in advance that it will be open. Open to non-members and it is free although they appreciate donations.

Details here:

I think this is great news, since so many of the FamilySearch Centres have restricted opening hours and are not easy to get to.

Oooh, that's good. I wish there was somewhere near here that would do the same!

Alas, I have given up my local LDS family history centre as it is never open and no one answers the phone.

I am however, eternally grateful for the 25 years it WAS open. I would never have been able to do the research any other way, being so many hundreds of miles from my area of research.

There is a library, or affiliate, or something near me. No idea where but 15 minutes from home. However it is only open for 1 hour a week, 5pm on a Saturday night.

What research can you hope to achieve in an hour? Ridiculous

I think that might be the point. They don't want people there.

When I was trying to find location I could get to in hours that suited me I found it online. It must be a tiny location.
