Default Ethnicity

I have strange group of DNA matches: over 20 of them, all living in US.

The latest representative has only French ethnicity in common with me.

Great, I thought: this will expain why I can find nothing common.... except that when I look at others, they have no French ethnicity at all

How is this possible?

Because their ethnicity estimates aren't accurate enough yet?

I'm curious about my own French ancestry. It's only three per cent, but I cannot account for it. Checking the group, the one who has only, and the one who has no French Ancestry, both appear to have up-to-date estimates.
