His marriage cert is on FamilySearch, and doesn't give his father's name, which is a pity.
He does say he was born in England, so if his date of birth is correct there are only 14 likely candidates: Births Dec 1885 Osborne John Chester le S. 10a 504 Osborne John Shoreditch 1c 88 Osborne John Salford 8d 152 Osborne John Stoke T. 6b 251 Osborne John Brixworth 3b 131 Osborne John Edwards Bedminster 5c 682 Osborne John Thomas St. Olave 1d 282 Osborne John William Midhurst 2b 405 Births Mar 1886 OSBORNE John W.Ham 4a 169 OSBORNE John Birmingham 6d 171 OSBORNE John Salford 8d 126 Osborne John Toxteth Park 8b 199 OSBORNE John Harrison Woolwich 1d 1235 Osborne John Harrison Woolwich 1d 1255 OSBORNE John William Oundle 3b 229 |

He also says he's a bachelor, so he shouldn't be with a wife in 1911 if he's in England.

John Edwards Osborne might be a good candidate, because he comes from the right sort of background; father Jeremiah was a solicitor, John was a boarder in Winchester in 1901 (not sure if it was Winchester College), and a stock exchange clerk boarding in London in 1911.

Thanks Mary, I will see if I can find something that links him to this family.

The National Probate Calendar has a John Edwards Osborne dying 24 Sep 1938 at Wold Sanatorium, Davos Platz, Switzerland, probate to Agnes Telford Osborne widow. But since he died in Switzerland, we can't get his age at death from FreeBMD to see if he was the one born 1885. There is a likely marriage 1923 Marylebone district, John E Osborne / Agnes T Thornton.

Mu gut feeling is that he is likely to be just John Osborne as Crockford generally has all the names, and he is just in there as John, but I will follow up on John Edwards Osborne and see if I can exclude him.

John Edwards Osborne, son of Jeremiah and Caroline, was baptised 13 Nov 1885 at Abbots Leigh, Somerset, which means his dob couldn't be 16 Dec 1885.
