Default A challenge. Who is Katherine?

This might be a wild goosechase or something crucial but I can't get a start anuwhere with it.

Katharine Gulson
England Deaths and Burials, 1538-1991
burial: 14 May 1668 Ropsley,? Lincoln,? England

It's the earliest record yet of a Goulson (or variant) spelling in Ropsley, question is does it link to the Benjamin Goulson c 1677 place unknown married 1703, Broughton Sulney, Notts and then lived in Ropsley from 1703 until his death in 1731?

Still looking for that elusive 1677 birth and the baptism for Benjamin, he just appeared on the earth from parts unknown. Is Katharine a link?

EDIT****

Familysearch now doesn't have the 1703 marriage which it did previously, just at a loss with how often they add and remove records.

Hi Glen
I found this marriage -

groom's name: ... Galson
bride's name: Catherina Aunley
marriage date: 06 Jun 1651
marriage place: Searby-With-Owmby, Lincoln, England
indexing project (batch) number: M03116-2
system origin: England-EASy
source film number: 1450430

but no idea if it fits in with anything else and what about this one -

groom's name: John Kidgert or Lidgett
bride's name: Kathren Gulson (widdow)
marriage date: 1669
marriage place: Usselby, Lincoln, England
indexing project (batch) number: M03368-3
system origin: England-VR

Could the 1668 burial be a child ? Have you come across the Galson variation before ?

I was searching for SHEATHER in Sussex last week, also SHEADER and SHEDDER and wondered if it could have been written as SEGER very early on. If you say it out loud, it could be the same - between illiteracy and pronounciation variations and then transcription of old writing, it gets really hard to search back past 1700 I have found.

Hi Di

It's a variant I've seen in really early records, I keep going over naming patterns and suchlike, Katherine doesn't appear anywhere but Valentine does (much later however as it's around 1820 at Knipton, Leics, some of his siblings were Ropsley born and baptised)).

I can link some of the family groups with the name to Thoresway and that general area and also Melton Mowbray, doesn't seem my lot fit into them but the Thoresway/Melton names do cross into the area where my confirmed family were and sometimes at the same sort of times too, (Colsterworth and Bourne being the usual places). I just can't say for certain of they are or aren't linked together.

Hmmm, wonder if this could be the Valentine from my earlier post?

Valentine Gulson
England, Births and Christenings, 1538-1975
christening: 17 Feb 1627 MARKET RASEN,?LINCOLN,?ENGLAND
parents: Rowland Gulson

Searby, Owmby and Thoresway are all close to Caistor and only a few miles from Market Rasen.

Think mum may have been Dorothy, there is a 1621 bapt at Middle Rasen with parents Rowland and Dorothy.
