ooo Thanks Merry!!

I had never been to FreeReg before

I found another one on there too
Parson's cousin:
Martha Parson Baker 1844
her father was John Sales Baker, who must be Charles's brother (I didn't have his middle name)
John & Charles were sons of John Baker & Harriet Sales

The next enigma will be to find out where the 'Parson' bit comes from and also the 'Custance' bit ....

Searching for a John Sales Baker sounds a lot easier than a John Baker! lol

Custance was a well-off Norfolk family, so good luck! lol

John Baker was born in England, and died date unknown. He married Priscilla Custance in England, daughter of Adam Custance and Elizabeth Parson.

Priscilla Custance, b. 1743, Holt, England, d. Dec 1801, England.

For more information visit:

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com.../UHP-1033.html

From Holt Registers:
1801 : Priscilla wife of John Baker late Priscilla Custance was buried Dec 3rd aged 68

On 18 Apr 1802 John Baker, widower, married Bridget Framlingham at Blakeney - the same John ?

And I just located this

Holt St Andrew Parish Registers
28 Sep 1760 By License
John BAKER of Wells Widower
Priscilla CUSTANCE of Holt Single Woman
Witnesses
Ad CUSTANCE
Wm CUSTANCE

Also found the following baptisms for children of John & Priscilla. Wells, Norfolk, Baptism Register (one of the best registers I have ever had the pleasure of reading)

07 Aug 1761 BAKER William
21 Jul 1762 BAKER Elizabth
30 Oct 1763 Baker Anna Maria
18 Mar 1765 BAKER Margaret

Nothing more in Wells in the following 10 years but the baptisms of four children to a John & Priscilla Baker, at Yarmouth St Nicholas, on FreeReg, may (or may not) be relevant

1772 BAKER Jno
1773 BAKER Adam
1775 BAKER John
1777 BAKER Susanna

LDS/Familysearch has the marriage of what appears to be Parson Custance Baker's parents (cross checked against both individuals)
15 JUL 1841 Saint James, Westminster, London, England
Charles Baker & Jane Lambourn (father Richard Lambourn)
Jane Lambourn & Charles Baker (father John Baker)
GRO Marriage Ref (from FreeBMD)
1841, Sep, Lambourn, St Jas Westr, 1, 112
1841, Sep, Baker, St Jas Westr, 1, 112

As the 1851 census of Holt gives Jane's age as 37 and her birthplace as Ludgershall, Bucks she is probably the (LDS again)
Jane Lamborn Baptised 30 JAN 1814 Ludgershall, Buckingham, England Parents Richard & Elisabeth

Charles' age in 1851 was given as 39, and his birthplace as Holt. A quick check of the registers found
Charles son of John Barker and Harriet his wife late Harriett Sales was born April 11 privately baptised April 12 and rec'd into the church Jun 23 1812.

John Baker & Harriett Sales had married at Holt on 18 Dec 1806. Both were single and the witnesses were Charles Sales and Margaret Baker and Sarah Scott.

FreeReg has four more children of John & Harriett
24 Dec 1813 BAKER Anna Maria
29 Jul 1815 BAKER Anne
02 Nov 1816 BAKER Margaret
12 Jul 1818 BAKER Frances

FreeReg again
40 year old Harriett Baker was buried at Holt, on 9 July 1821

As for John Baker --- He's all yours!!!!!!!! Good luck

Wow, WoW and WOW!!!!!

Thank you Bill

I had kind of despaired of ever finding the Custance link. I've got lots of things to follow & check now... the link you gave me goes back to a will dated 1473!!!!

Wow again - .....

I've also got Eastaughs in my tree.... any link to you?

Glad I could be of assistance. We would appear to be related.

The "Custance of Bolton Sands" site has the family of Adam Custance and Susan Hollenpriest with one child missing, Robert Custance, the one I'm descended from.

It was his brother Adam who married Elizabeth Parsons.

So far I've not got any Eastaughs in my own family, but you never know.

Problem solved

John Barker and Priscilla Custance are last seen in Wells at the baptism of daughter Margaret in 1765. No idea where they were from 1765-1772, when they turn up in Yarmouth and have four children baptised at St Nicholas (FreeReg).

Bapt 1772 BAKER Jno
Bapt 1773 BAKER Adam
Bapt 1775 BAKER John
Bapt 1777 BAKER Susanna

John Baker bapt Yarmouth 1775 marries Harriett Sales in Holt, in 1806, & had nine children baptised in Holt

1807 Harriett
1809 John Sales
1811 Mary Anne
1812 Charles
1813 Anna Maria
1815 Anne
1816 Margarett
1818 Frances
1820 Henry

Harriett dies in Holt in 1820

In 1851 in Lakenham, Norwich we have
John BAKER Head Widower 76 Retired Ironmonger born Yarmouth
Mary A BAKER Daur Single 40 Annuitant born Holt
Sarah WHITE Serv Single 15 Servant born Mattishall

We now appear to have a confirmed link between Custance, Parson and Baker

It's 4:25 AM and I'm now going to bed

Goodnight all
