I would think it's far more likely Jane's name is Price, not Rice, coming from Wales! There are no birth registrations for Jane Rice, but half a dozen or so for Jane Price around the right time in Abergavenny District.

Thanks Merry I will go looking for a marriage of one of the Bowen daughters to a Price and see if it is a likely fit. Thank you.

Default Richard Bowen

Hello
My Ancestor is Richard Bowen. He was my Gt Gt Grandfather's Grandfather. That was John Howells born to Elizabeth Bowen and Jarrett/Jared Howells.

John was baptised in LLan y bri in 1828. the entry states that his mother was from the plough and harrow in newchurch and his father was from Pant yr Athro in Llanstephan.

Can anyone shed some light as to what happened to Elisabeth Bowen or Jared as I have no furtherentries for them anywhere.

There is this household on the 1841 census in St David, Pembrokeshire:
Jared Howell 30 Ag Lab Yes
Anne Do 30 Yes
Henry Bowen 75 Ag Lab Yes

Could just be a coincidence though.

Same couple in 1851:
Valley, St Davids, Pembrokeshire
Gered Howell Head Mar 45 Farm Lab Pembrokes St Davids
Anne Do Wife Mar 40 Do's wife Do Do
Elizabeth Howell Daur 7 Scholar Do Do
Amy Howell Daur 6 Do Do Do
Dorothy Do Daur 3 Do Do
David Do Son 2m Do Do

What is Jared's occupation on John's marriage certificate?

hi
on johns marriage cert is states that jared is deceased. John was married in Neath in 1860.

Possibly jared had died before civil registration. The name Jared appears to be around the parish of Abernant in Carmarthenshire. Mainly

Can we find anything on Elisabeth Bowen and what happened to her. I think jane Rice sister seems to have gone to live possibly with her on a smallholding near newchurch I thought at one time I came across it. although she states that she is a widow.

I am still trying to establish the parents of Jane Bowen nee Davies. If we go from her age on the 1851 Census of 67 that makes her born 1784. When she dies 26/12/1859 it gives her age as 80 and says that she was from the Plough & Harrow, so we know she it the right person. I am going to try and see if I can find a grave at Newchurch now I know they were buried there.
I am wondering if anyone can locate her will now, as I remember that I couldn't find it in 2015?
Jane married Richard Bowen at Merthyr 4/11/1806, the index said he was a yeoman, can anyone find their actual record and see if it gives the names of their parents?
Jane was supposedly born at Blaenporth in Cardiganshire, but it is now in Ceredigion Archives at Aberystwyth. Are these records online, as I am having trouble finding records of Blaenporth? Richard's brother was an Anglican minister, so I would imagine that Jane would be C of E too. Thanks. Julie

Under Richard Bowen in 2015 I searched on FMP but couldn't find it. I don't have a sub anymore but it is quite possible that it is now online.
The new free reg gave me less information than the old one and only said Jane DAVIES Richard BOWEN Marriage 04 Nov 1806 Carmarthenshire Merthyr St Martin Parish Register. On the old one it said he was a Yeoman
