What happened to Maria Beaver?
She has featured in a previous thread of mine, but we didn't follow her this far forward and I think it will be easier to look at this on its own.
1881 census: https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interacti...08527538/facts 137 Gt Suffolk St, Southwark Maria Beaver H of F Wd 47 Butchers Wife Middlesex Hoxton Amy " Daughter Unmarried 15 Scholar Surrey Newington Ellen " Daughter 11 " " " Edith " Daughter 8 " Kent Greenwich Eliza Tibby Servant Unmarried 29 Servant Middlesex St Lukes. Maria was born Maria Townsend 22 Nov 1830 in Bethnal Green, daughter of William Man Townsend and his wife Charlotte, nee Townsend. She married her cousin, Charles Frederick Beaver (1827-1873), 24 Sep 1854 at St John, Brixton, and they had the following children: Charles Townsend Beaver born 30 Jul 1855 Southwark - died 1878 Southwark Unnamed boy born 1856 St George Southwark, died in infancy William Philip Beaver born about 1858 Newington, Surrey - he is in Islington in 1891 and Camberwell in 1901 Ada Maria Beaver born 1859 Newington - she married Edward Wright in 1884 and they are in Pancras in 1891 and 1901; Amy and Edith are with them in 1891. Mary Elizabeth Beaver born about 1862 Newington - she married Charles Patrick in 1880 and she is in Hastings, Sussex, in 1891, and then she married Frederick Lamb in 1897 and they are in Chichester, Sussex, in 1901. James Beaver born 1864 Newington - I'm not sure what happened to him as he isn't with the family in 1871 but I haven't found his death. Amy Beaver born 1865 Newington - she is with Ada in 1891 and then married Charles Samuel Brown in 1896. They're in Hackney in 1901. Maud Beaver born about 1868 Newington - died in 1874 Ellen Beaver born 1869 Newington - she is a servant in Paddington in 1891. Not sure what happened to her after that. Edith Alice Beaver born 1872 Greenwich, Kent - she is with Ada in 1891 and she died in 1892. Can anyone see what happened to Maria after 1881, please? I would have thought she died before 1891 and that was why Amy and Edith were with Ada on the census, but I can't find a death. |

Well, I looked
Wondered if she had been in an institution across a census or two before her death, but found nothing and no sensible deaths in later years anyway. I suppose there are a lot of 'unknown' deaths and since I found someone on another person's tree who was believed to have drowned in the Thames, but no body was recovered, I tend to imagine the same for anyone living in London - but that's not very satisfactory. Maybe she lived with someone and then died and was registered with a different surname?

Hmm, there's a Maria Beaver death in 1915 in Hastings, age 84. I'll have to look into that one.

Ooh, it is her, because she has granddaughter Lilian Maud Patrick with her in 1911! But where was she (Maria) in 1891 and 1901?

Ok, here she is in 1901, thanks to UK Census Online (ancestry has her as Maria Beaner, born in Lancashire!)
