Default Child Burials

If a burial said Hannah daughter of Hannah would you think the father was deceased and/or the child was illegitimate?

I would look for a baptism before making a decision. And I would also consider whether it was an entry that had ended up in the wrong register. I have found (what I think were) baptisms entered as burials.

Infant burials usually make things clear, but people sometimes seem to qualify as children, even if they are adults.

I have a baptism for the child but all baptisms were daughter of Thomas. Hannah, the wife, only made an appearance for the last child.

Thomas had 2 daughters called Hannah, so I'm thinking the first one died. The only possible death is this one but it mentions the mother and not the father, who was still alive. Looking at the register all the other burials mention child of the father, widow, wife of or occupation for a man.

Thomas was a comber, which I think means they would not have had a lot of money. Would Thomas have taken time off work to bury his child? If not, maybe the mother was recorded instead.

Otherwise I'm wondering if this child is not my Hannah.

I don't think the info in the burial register would depend on which parents were actually present at the burial.

I don't either Kate. I'll have to check but it looks like it is a different child.
