Could I really have found her?
I have been searching fruitlessly for 10 years for the death of OH's 2xgt grandmother, Jane Newton.
I'm having real success with the Family Search Pilot site and I have found the following burial for a Jane Newton born c. 1812: Name: Jane Newton Gender: Female Burial Date: 30 Dec 1854 Burial Place: Nunhead, Surrey, England Death Date: Death Place: Age: 42 Birth Date: 1812 Birthplace: Occupation: Race: Marital Status: Spouse's Name: Father's Name: Father's Birthplace: Mother's Name: Mother's Birthplace: Indexing Project (Batch) Number: B01758-8 System Origin: England-EASy Source Film Number: 254578 Reference Number: Page 55 No. 6840 Collection: England Deaths and Burials, 1538-1991 It might, just might, be her. She was born 17 Feb 1812 in Stayley and was living in Newington with her husband and 10 children, the last one, OH's great-grandfather, having been born in 1850. I looked on FMP for her entry - THERE IS A PAGE MISSING IN FMP! NEWSHAM, Eliza NEWTON, Elizabeth 1854 Jul-Aug-Sep FREE NEWTON, Edward NEWTON, Henry 1854 Jul-Aug-Sep VIEW NEWTON, Herbert ? NEWTON, Mary Louisa 1854 Jul-Aug-Sep FREE NEWTON, Matthew Henry NIB?, Eliza Matilda 1854 Jul-Aug-Sep FREE NEWTON, John Sherlock NEWTON, William Henry 1854 Oct-Nov-Dec FREE NEWTON, William Thomas NICHOLAS, Llewellin 1854 Oct-Nov-Dec VIEW NEWBALD, Eliza NEW?, William 1855 Jan-Feb-Mar FREE NEWSHAM, Thomas NEWTON, Elizabeth 1855 Jan-Feb-Mar VIEW NEWTON, Elizabeth NEWTON, John 1855 Jan-Feb-Mar VIEW NEWTON, John NEWTON, Samuel 1855 Jan-Feb-Mar VIEW NEWTON, Sarah NICHOL, Jane 1855 Jan-Feb-Mar VIEW There are no Newtons for Oct-Dec ar 1854 before John! Could someone tell me if the page is missing on Ancestry? The pilot site is brilliant for burials, and I have also found today the baptism of Jane's husband and sister which I have been searching for for ages! |

Thanks, Margaret.
What is more, when you find the hit for Jane Newton on the site it says she is living in NEWINGTON. The family moved from Bankside where there business was to Trinity Square, Newington before George Herbert was born! |

Thanks, Margaret, I'm not quite sure what the procedure is! I'll have to send an e-mail or make a phone call.

They all vary anyway. Some take orders over the phone and others you need to write a letter.

Been trying to work out what registration district it would be, with no luck.

Ah, Newington now comes under Southwark.
The Register Office, 34 Peckham Road, London, SE5 8QA. Tel: 020 7525 7651. Fax: 020 7525 7652. E-mail: [email protected] Best of luck, most London offices won't supply for family history and refer you to the GRO, you'll have to explain the situation.

I think it is St Saviour Southwark (where all the children were registered).
Oooh, I'm excited now! |

Margaret, I remember them being singularly unhelpful before when I enquired about her!
