I might be getting somewhere.

William Hatch of Southwick married Mary Budd of West Tisted by licence on 10 October 1708 at St Maurice, Winchester:

All those missing baptisms for William Hatch senior and Mary Budd, including this William's:

my Five Children and two Grandchildren William Hatch John Hatch Mary the wife of Richard New Martha the Wife of Edward Rookes Honour the Wife of Henry Witorn and James and Ann Hatch my Grandchildren

All at Southwick:

20 July 1710 William Hatch (father blank)
15 Aug 1711 John son of William Hatch
6 Feb 1712/13 Mary daughter of William Hatch
14 December 1714 Martha daughter of William Hatch
3 December 1715 Hannah daughter of WIlliam Hatch
19 May 1717 William son of (blank) Hatch

Honour was baptised at Bramshaw

and perhaps William who married Ursula Eldridge in 1768?

3 October 1742 William son of William Hatch at Southwick

The only flaw is the two Williams, but these must be the children from William senior's will as all the names tally.

I really need to see the burials for the parish. It's annoying that the two Williams don't have fathers named.

The only other Hatches in this parish are earlier - three children for Simon Hatch in 1669, 1670 and 1672.

Ooh, was William Hatch senior a butcher?

From the National Archives:

Unexecuted lease for 21 years from Richard Norton to William Hatch of Southwick, butcher, of a barn, gateroom and 40 acres called Ham in Southwick. 5M50/1841 25 June 1723

These documents are held at Hampshire Record Office

That's a long time after your Hatches, though, isn't it, Elizabeth? Oh, never mind, just realised there are two dates in each of those entries! Or are they just reference numbers that look like years?

FMP has a burial for a William Hatch 16 Dec 1710 at Soberton, Hampshire. Looks near to Southwick.

I'm still confused as there are three William Hatches being buried at Southwick in the 1740s.

We crossed, Kate.
I'm going to have to get the will of Simon Hatch, there is no avoiding it.

I think tomorrow I shall start a new thread for William Hatch and Mary Budd, or I shall get even more confused.
