Maybe the enumerator put granddau for Jane Leach because he was reading the wrong line on the householders schedule and she should say boarder or something? *looks hopeful*

Are there any Henry Bridge/Mary Leach marriages?

The obvious assumption is that Mary had an illegitimate child - either a little leech or a girl child who married a Leach.

As everyone else has said, Jane's birth certificate ought to resolve the problem and with luck, Mary was living with her illegitimate child in 1841.

There is a Jane Leach baptism 30 Nov 1864 at Holy Trinity, Bolton, daughter of Thomas and Ann, abode Ormrod Street, occupation miner (on Lancashire OPC site).

As the bap is in the right address area and as I can't see Thomas and Ann getting married or being on a census, I guess that bap is probably for the right Jane Leach!

I can't see any Leaches in Ormrod Street on the 1861. Bother!
