Confused - two brothers with the same name living in the same household in 1851
https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bi...=successSource
Josiah Briggs age 44 Josiah Briggs age 38 Younger Josiah is described as the elder one's brother. Errrrrrrr!!! Edit: There are two John's too, unless the one month old is the son of the younger Josiah. He's unmarried though.

The elder one is likely to be Josiah Briggs born 24 May 1806 and baptised 31 Jul 1806 non-con at Birmingham, son of Samuel and Hannah.

There is an Amelia Briggs birth registered 1848 with MMN Tonkinson, so the 1 month old (I think it says) son John could be Josiah whose birth was registered Apr-Jun 1851, MMN Tomkinson. So maybe the names John and Josiah have been swapped over on the census?

He has younger brothers, George and David, who would be close to 38 years of age in 1851.

Yes, I’ve found that. So you think that Josiah the younger should actually be John. There was a John born to Samuel and Hannah but he was born 7 Nov 1804 so older than Josiah. (Family Search)

Plus, Josiah the younger is a surgeon (not practising) and David was a tobacconist. If I’ve found the right George in 1851 in Oldbury, Staffs he’s a grocer and druggist.

This is the will of their father Samuel Briggs from 1849 (on FMP):
https://search.findmypast.co.uk/reco...wills%2f007702 His children are named as Thomas, Hannah, John, Josiah, Maria (married name Robinson), George and David. Unfortunately he doesn't state their occupations! |

This could be Thomas in 1861:

And this could be John in 1861, a dispensing chemist age 56. I think it says unmarried:
