Found this about a lease on The Keep website (East Sussex Record Office)

William Barnes of Horley, Surrey, gent, to Richard Harland of Lindfield, tailor, lands in Lindfield (adjoining the road and the churchyard) occupied by Francis Beard (ESRO ref BH/P/ES/DQ/12

"lands adjoining the road and churchyard" narrows it down considerably, either the old Tiger buildings to the south of the church (now owned by the church) or the old Wealden hall house on the north side of the churchyard

From a book on local history published 1959, (no sources mentioned anywhere), a receipted account from R Harland 1706 to Goodman Marten overseer of the poor:

for macking Thomas david a frock 0-1-0
for macking Thomas david 2 boys frocks 0-1-6
for macking manty and coat for david Gel 0-1-6
for macking will west Coat and wascet 0-3-0
for macking Goodman ginner a frock 0-1-0
--------
Receed by me Richard Harland 0-8-0

NB Just realised this is Richard's father.
