How interesting, Anne. I saw your message on the Wheathampstead village website.
We are just two miles away.

My grandfather had a shop in the High Street and my grandmother taught at the village school. She had very fond memories of the village. Someone from the website sent me a village history booklet with an old picture of the school and the staff including my grandmother. My mum was born there but left when she was two.

I must go past your grandfather's old shop most Mondays when I go to Italian lessons at a friend's house, Anne. A couple of years ago I took lots of photos of the graves in the churchyard of St Helen's Church. The church has a lovely spire, which is quite a landmark despite being in a valley.

My mother and grandmother once went round that graveyard and my grandmother recognised a lot of the names of pupils she had taught.
