Default Still looking for Hugh Addison, Manor of Broughton in Furness

My elusive Hugh Addison.

From the will of Robert Scale/s 1708, Hugh married Robert's daughter, Jane.

There was one daughter, Agnes (no baptism found). She married William Kirkby 1727, Hawkshead. Not sure about any other children but Hugh only mentions Agnes in his will of 1743.

I found this.......and have no idea if it is significant.

If you put "hugh" into a searchbox, you will see my Hugh Addison. I'm sure it is him as it seems he was aged 78 in 1739 and my fellow died "a very old man" in 1743.

Does anyone know if this might help me find a baptism??

Did we every find out if Jane Askay was a widow when she married her Hugh Addison?

Looks as if there might have been earlier links between the Addison and Scales families:

Marriage: Nov 1551 St Mary, Ulverston, Lancashire, England
Richard Adison & Jenet Scales
[2nd sundaie]

My Hugh who died 1742 definitely married Jane Scale/s

I have no idea if he was married before that or not, however, if Hugh was about 82 at death then he was born about 1661. He was married to Jane Scale/s by 1707 but I don't think Agnes was born then as she is not mentioned in her grandfather's will and her cousins on the Scale/s side are. That gives Hugh oodles of time to marry someone else prior to JS.

I couldn't work out from that link if Hugh actually lived at the Manor or not.....but if he did, am I looking in the right place for his records?

Yes, but have we eliminated Jane Askay by proving she was a spinster, or is she still in the running?

Do you know who Robert Scales wife was and was she provided for in his will or did she pre-decease him?

Robert's wife was Agnes McKreth. She died in Sept 1687. Robert died 1708.

Here's a probably dumb question, but as Robert Scales doesn't mention his granddaughter Agnes Addison in his will, how do you know the Hugh Addison mentioned as the husband of Roberts daughter Jane is your Hugh and not another Hugh Addison?
