They just disappear! They could have died of course but Moore is a very common name and there are several possibilities but I’m reluctant to spend a fortune on pure speculation. Of the children the only one I have in 1871 is William with his wife Jane in Stepney. Henry (b 1849) and Walter (b 1853) marry in 1874 and 1873 respectively but cannot find them in 1871 (Henry is a common name – there are possibles) The 4 younger children James, Arthur, Frederick and Alfred are hiding too although again it’s such a common name that there are possibles on their own, in institutions or in the death indexes. Over to you!

Is Alfred the one with no name age 2 weeks on the 1861 census?

And do you have marriage certificates of any of William's children which say he is "deceased"?

Yes, he's the unamed babe, Alfred's baptism is on the LMA records, Kite, in April 1861 which I thought would help me find the family but it didn't. I have one marriage cert. (for Henry, my gt grandfather) dated 1874 and it doesn't say deceased. The other marriages I've found on the LMA records and none say father deceased, although I thought I'd found one where it said "Dead" but without giving the fathers occupation which didn't help - but now I can't find it! Will look again later...
What I didn't mention is that a several of the children were baptised later in life - Mary Ann and Elizabeth in 1863 and William jnr in 1864 but assuming that the parents were still around and that the children were still living with them they'd moved by 1871.

I spent quite a while looking last night, and found possibles for several of the children in 1871 but not the parents.

Thanks for looking Kite. Moore is such a common name particularly when it's William or Henry! I expect I'll have to bite the bullet and send for a death certifiacte or two. The problem is which ones? Anyone got a pin?
