No, the father's name must be Lett on the GRO index as the mother's maiden name is also given as Lett. That would be left blank on the new index if no father's name was given.

There's no index entry under Smart, so presumably no father on the cert (unless it's Elijah Carrington named!) - I'm guessing the GRO have the entry listed under Lett because Elijah wasn't recorded as the father on the cert and that's why they got in a muddle.

I don't see a baptism for Annie in Riseley around 1884. Only the first three of the Carrington family seem to have been baptised (there were several more children - see 1881 census)

Kamila, do you have a copy of Annie's birth certificate? If so, what are the full details given? If not, I think you should order a copy as it should give information such as the address where she was born and the address where her mother was living, even if, as we suspect, no father's name is stated.
