Sarah Christiana Keely Perry Ogilvie
It has been a while since I posted a query here.
Sarah Christiana Keely Perry Ogilvie was born in 1798, the fourth daughter of Richard Vining Perry and Clementina Clerk (or Clarke) She was baptised at Stanwell in 1798 as 'Perry' (without the 'Ogilvie'), but soon after that her parents adopted the surname Ogilvie in honor of Clementina's rich uncle, whose estate Clementina inherited. Sarah died in or near Chipping Sodbury and I think was buried at St. Peter’s, Frampton Cotterell, on 6 May, 1880. She and her older sister Isabella Caroline Clarke Ogilvie Perry Ogilvie, lived in Totnes for a time, where Isabella married the Rev. William Marshall. In the 1841 census Sarah was staying or living with her brother-in-law, William, who was then the rector of Chickerell, near Weymouth, but I have not found any sign of her in the next 30 years of census records. The most likely explanation is that she was institutionalized. Is there any way to trace long term hospitals near Chipping Sodbury where she might have been for over 30 years? |

There's an entry for her here:
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interacti...cklabel=Return Her name is transcribed as Sarah Ogilire! The entry reads: UK, Lunacy Patients Admission Registers, 1846-1912 Admission number, 32726, Ogilvie Sarah CKP, Private female patient, admission date 22 Mar 1876, Asylum Northwood, date of discharge or death, 3 May 1880 (death) Northwoods Asylum was at Frampton Cotterell which is in Chipping Sodbury District. Now, only another 30 years to find her!

There are some other entries listed as S O in 1851 and 1861, but I'm not convinced any of them are the right person - you might like to take a look though!

Not what you were asking about, but in case you hadn't seen it...

Thank you Merry:
I had noted the Northwoods Asylum as a likely home, but could not find any details. The criteria for putting people into those asylums were very unclear. I am intrigued but mystified by the tendency to park inconvenient women into such places. Maybe when I have finished my current project I will be motivated to explore that in nore detail. Tim |

Also thank you again Merry:
The link to the National archives is very fascinating: the plaintiff appears to be my GGGF's step-nephew, and the defendants include my GGF, GGM, her sister Sarah CKPO, and all their other sisters and their husbands. Grist to the mill: I will explore, Tim |

….and finally, the 1861 census:
https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bi...ff=&ml_rpos=92 To find these last two I searched surname O and date of birth 1798 +/-2 and just looked through the results until I saw something meaningful!
