So, the 1871 is most useful as it gives Wm's birthplace as Glasgow, rather than just Scotland.

I don't have a sub for Scotlands People and hardky use it anyway, so will leave looking for Scotish records to someone else, but I couldn't see anything for the Scottish children on Family Search.

If Scottish records don't help, to find out Ellen's maiden name, you could get the birth cert for William's younger sister:

Births Mar 1861
Grimshaw Cecily Wigan 8c 71

and hope Cecily's parents marriage is before William was born!

I note there's a big gap between the eldest child on the 1861 census and the next (15 and 6 years), so it's possible William might have had more than one wife......

There's an unmarried William b Blackrod in 1851 aged 20. I'm wondering if Margaret aged 15 in 1861 is the child of his then wife, Ellen?

Anyway, you have a lot of certs to get before you worry about that - I may have gone wrong somewhere.

First step is Annie's birth cert from 1877.

Ann Grimshaw's birth in Wigan in 1877 is on the index on Lancashire BMD and it gives her mother's maiden name as Robinson.

Couldn't find anything on SP in the OPRs (pre-1855).

There is a James Grimshaw born in Glasgow in 1856.

And the 1873 marriage is on Lancashire Online Parish Clerks:
27 Oct 1873 at St Paul, Skelmersdale, William Grimshaw age 20, bachelor, coal miner, of Skelmersdale, married Ann Robinson, 19, spinster, of Skelmersdale, his father William Grimshaw coal miner, her father James Robinson, tailor, witnesses George Woodcock and Margaret Woodcock.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a sub for SP - it's pay as you go.
