Just found this by chance

http://www.nam.ac.uk/press/records-f...-set-go-online

Ledgers covering the period 1901 -1929 should be online in early 2015.

That's interesting, Jay, thanks.

It reminds me of some documents in the service papers of my great-grandmother's cousin Arthur James Glasscodine who died in France on the 15th Jul 1917. There is a list of his returned effects which his widow had to sign for:

and a letter she wrote having received them:

35 Lysons Avenue
Gloucester
20/10/17

Dear Sir
Having recived some of my late husband things which is not half of them as my husband was gassed every thing would have been found on him or in his kit bag the things that are missing are the following wrist watch razor penknife purse and any money he had a small pair of siccors I feel it is my duty on behalf of myselve and little children that everything should have been forth coming who are they that search the body as I think it is shamefull after they have laid down their life should be very greatful to hear anything as regards to them
I am respectfully
Mrs M A Glasscodine
