Default GRO index Q

I just looked up a birth reg on the GRO official site and after the usual index info is written, "Occasional copy:A"

Any ideas what ths could mean? The entry is from 1920. The entry doesn't have any additional notation on th GRO page on FreeBMD.

Merry, I see quite a few hits to explore when I use
("Occasional copy:A" AND GRO)
as a search term. I tried both DuckDuckGo and Google. Hits on both.
Include all the punctuation and be sure the word AND is in all caps.

I think it usually means that a correction was made to the registration.

Thanks Janet, I'll have a look later. Right in the middle of a difficult bit of research at the mo!

Interesting. A pity they don't seem to have corrected the mmn as it starts with a different letter to all the others!

I have found this:

HYDE, FREDERICK TURNER
GRO Reference: 1867 J Quarter in ASHTON UNDER LYNE Volume 08D Page 486 Occasional Copy: A

The parents were George Edward Hyde and Helen, maiden name Turner.
Helen died in Q4 1867.

They married on 28th December 1865. This boy "Frederick" appears to have been their only child.

The only person I can find is Philip Hyde. In 1871 he is with his maternal aunt Mary Kirkham (sister of his mother) and in 1881 he is with his father.
Can I assume that a correction was made to change his name from Frederick to Philip?

FMP has this but not Frederick. GRO doesn't have Philip, only Frederick!

First name(s) Philip
Last name Hyde
Birth quarter 2
Birth year 1867
Mother's maiden name -
District Ashton under Lyne
County Lancashire
Country England
Volume 8D

That is weird. He is Frederick on Cheshire BMD too. Philip on FreeBMD. Surely the page number on the GRO site must be wrong?

How odd! I didn't notice the discrepancy in page number before, Kate.

I should look for his baptism.

It's on FMP Elizabeth. Also look at his entry on the 1939 Register and you will see another quite annoying discrepancy!!
